Google Spreadsheets comments or scribble

Hello,

Is there a way to put comments into a google spreadsheet that are not parsed on import? I'm aware of the notes feature, but I'm talking about just general descriptions or scribble that I would like to put in a separate tab and not have that parsed into the database.
